Instructions
If you need instructions for placing the webring HTML code on your website, then you're in the right place. If you need instructions on how to join, please go back to the Welcome page. The following instructions should work for you. If they do not, please contact support at your host and ask them how to insert HTML code for a webring.
Preferred method for Blogger/Blogspot users:
- From your dashboard, click on "Layout" under "Manage Your Blogs"
- In the sidebar, click "Add a Page Element"
- Find "HTML/Javascript" and click on "Add To Blog"
- Paste the HTML code provided in your email or on the alt-webring.com site into the content area (you do not need a title unless you want one)
- Click "Save Changes"
- Check all the webring links on your blog. If they are not working correctly, please follow the instructions for the alternative method below
Alternative method for Blogger/Blogspot users:
- Only use this method if the preferred method has not worked correctly. This method adds the webring links to your blog one at a time
- From your dashboard, click on "Layout" under "Manage Your Blogs"
- Click "Edit" on the widget you just added
- Click "Remove Page Element"
- Click "OK" when your browser asks if you are sure
- In the sidebar, click "Add a Page Element"
- Find "Link List" and click on "Add To Blog"
- Type "Assistants Etrangers Webring" in the "Title" field
- Leave the "Number of links to show" blank
- Leave the"Sorting" as "don't sort"
- Paste the URL for the "Previous site in this webring" into the "New Site URL" field. It should look something like this: http://alt-webring.com/cgi-bin/prev.pl?ringid=asstetrangers;siteid=XXXXX
- Type "Previous" in the "New Site Name" field
- Click "Add Link"
- Paste the URL for the "Random site in this webring" into the "New Site URL" field. It should look something like this: http://alt-webring.com/cgi-bin/rand.pl?ringid=asstetrangers;siteid=XXXXX
- Type "Random" in the "New Site Name" field
- Click "Add Link"
- Paste the URL for the "Next site in this webring" into the "New Site URL" field. It should look something like this: http://alt-webring.com/cgi-bin/next.pl?ringid=asstetrangers;siteid=XXXXX
- Type "Next" in the "New Site Name" field
- Click "Add Link"
- Paste the URL for the "Home site" into the "New Site URL" field. It should look something like this: http://alt-webring.com/cgi-bin/home.pl?ringid=asstetrangers;siteid=XXXXX
- Type "Join" in the "New Site Name" field
- Click "Add Link"
- Paste the URL for the"List of sites" into the "New Site URL" field. It should look something like this: http://alt-webring.com/cgi-bin/list.pl?ringid=asstetrangers;siteid=XXXXX
- Type "List" in the "New Site Name" field
- Click "Add Link"
- Click "Save Changes"
- Check all the webring links on your blog. If they are still not working correctly, contact Blogger/Blogspot support and tell them you are having problems inserting webring code into your blog template
For MySpace users:
- From your main page, go to "Edit Profile"
- Go to the "About Me" area under "Interests & Personality"
- Paste the HTML code provided in your email or on the alt-webring.com site into the space
- Click "Save All Changes"
- You're done
For Vox users:
- Under "My Vox" select "Design"
- Click "Customize your sidebars"
- Click "configure" next to the "Embed" option (make sure "Embed" is checked)
- Paste the HTML code provided in your email or on the alt-webring.com site into the "Widget Code" area
- Click "OK"
- Click "Apply"
- You're done
For Wordpress.com users:
- In your dashboard, go to Presentation->Sidebar Widgets and drag a text widget into your sidebar
- Click on the white box with lines in it that is on the widget to open the settings
- Paste the HTML code provided in your email or on the alt-webring.com site into the empty space. You do not need a title for the text widget
- Click the little "x" in the upper right corner to close the widget settings
- Click Save Changes
- Click View Site, and your webring code should be in your sidebar
- You're done
For ZahBlogs users:
- From your administration page, go to "Write"
- Go to "Write Page"
- Title the page "WebRing Information" (or something along those lines)
- Paste the HTML code provided in your email or on the alt-webring.com site into the page
- Click "Create New Page"
- Look at your site to make sure the new page is accessible from the main page
- You're done
Please note: You need to be able to add a clickable HTML link to your site in order to be a fully participating member of the ring. Hosts such as Bebo do not currently allow their users to do this. If you use a host that doesn't allow this, please send them feedback letting them know you would like to have this ability.
